Important information regarding customers located in and around the Bristol Clean Air Zone (CAZ)

From Monday 28th November 2022, Bristol City Council have introduced a Clean Air Zone in Bristol City Centre.

The charge for entering the Bristol Clean Air Zone (CAZ) is £9.00 per day.

Due to the cleverly constructed layout of the CAZ boundary, it is almost impossible to attend to our customers, not only inside the boundary, but customers located within close proximity of the Bristol Clean Air Zone without being charged at some point during the job.

Engineers may incur a charge either travelling to properties nearby, or when needed, trips to local plumbing suppliers in or near the Clean Air Zone.

It is with great regret, we must inform our customers of this extra charge, especially during these already tough and financially hard times.

Our hourly rates have stayed the same for over 5 years, and these will continue to be the same. Unfortunately, at the moment these charges are unavoidable for us as a plumbing company and our engineers that serve all Bristol residents, including both residential and commercial in Bristol's city centre and surrounding BS postcodes.

Here are a few examples of when & why an extra charge maybe added to your final invoice

  • You live in, or own a property within the CAZ boundary
  • You live in, or own a property within close proximity of the CAZ boundary
  • You require specific items or parts needed to complete a job and an engineer needs to make a trip to a local supplier in or near the CAZ boundary
  • You or your property is located on the other side of the CAZ boundary to where an available engineer is currently located
  • An engineer is required to pass through the Clean Air Zone for any reason, including any of the reasons above

Check to see if you will be affected by Bristol's Clean Air Zone

Please check the map of the Bristol Clean Air Zone, and zones surrounding the CAZ that may be affected. The areas highlighted are simply a guide and are not a definitive answer to whether you will be charged part or all of the £9.00 CAZ fee.

No Hidden Charges

The Clean Air Zone and the fees attached are a new thing for us and many other businesses in and around the Bristol area, and we are not entirely sure how it’s all going to work out.

Any fees, whether all, part of, or none, will be worked out at the engineer’s discretion. Customers will be informed before or during the start of any job, and there will be no surprises or hidden charges.

Our plans for the future

At the moment, our vehicles do not meet the criteria needed to avoid the Bristol Clean Air Zone charge. We are working with Bristol City Council and the government to ensure we can continue providing an affordable service to our city centre residents.

Unfortunately, these things take time. Phone calls, forms, grant applications, etc. Our goal is to upgrade our vehicles to CAZ compliant in the near future, but until this time the charges are out of our control.

We deeply regret the situation regarding the Bristol Clean Air Zone and the financial impact it will have on some of our customers. We will do our utmost and continue to provide an affordable service to our city centre residents.
